I am extremely proud to have been given the opportunity to lead the Honest Toun’s Association as we move towards Festival 2018. Festival is always an exciting time in our town and a time when we see Musselburgh at its very best.
The Honest Toun’s Association Committee, community groups and organisations along with many volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that our week-long Festival provides opportunities for everyone to come together to celebrate Musselburgh’s history and traditions. We are very proud of our town, its heritage and our Festival and the fact that it is the only one of its kind in East Lothian.
This year’s programme of events reflects the success of the changes made last year and the feedback we received from those who took part. One of the biggest successes was our Family Fun Day in Lewisvale Park. Despite the weather, we saw hundreds of children and their families enjoy a day of fun and games with entertainment and fairground rides galore. Hopefully the sun will shine this year and this event will be an even bigger success.
In our Honest Lad, Honest Lass and Attendants, we have young people who are committed to the continuation of our town’s traditions while also showing that they are prepared to be role models and ambassadors. We wish them well for Festival Week and congratulate them on the way they have represented Musselburgh since their election in April.
We aim to provide something for everyone this year and I urge everyone to join in this celebration of our Honest Toun. Tell others about it. Invite them to take part. Let’s make it another Festival to remember.
